Steve Fenwick fights in Japan, gains his second dan

Towards the end of October Senpai Steve Fenwick from York dojo, went to Japan to fight in the 25th Strong Open Tournament (All Japan Open). Although entered in the open (heavyweight) category he weighed in at a mere 79kg, but nevertheless fought in that category against a first opponent who was a Japanese 2nd dan weighing in at 113kg!

Steve won after extra time by unanimous decision. In the quarter finals he came up against Oyabu, a former world champion who won by decision and went on to the final.

After the tournament, Steve went on to Ito dojo with Kancho Soeno where he was examined for Nidan (2nd dan) which he gained. A massive congratulations to Steve from all of us in Shidokan GB.
