Shihan Burnel in Sri Lanka

Following a request from a kyokushin organisation in Sri Lanka Shihan Burnel was invited to Sri Lanka to train with Sensei Lakmal Fonseka 3 dan with a view to establishing Shidokan on that island.

JJ arrived in Colombo at 7am after 13 hours of travel, was sped through custom formalities due to a member of the karate group being an immigration officer, had a two hour drive to near Kandy and had a first training session, with 60 students, at 3pm with the temperature at 35°C and humidity at 85%!

Two more training sessions were held and a tournament where Shihan Burnel could witness the spirit and ability of Sensei Fonseka's students. JJ had no hesitation in recommending that they join the World Karate Association, the Shidokan.

Two days after returning from Sri Lanka Shihan Burnel had to fly to Japan for the first ever Shihan meeting of the Shidokan. This discussed the future of the organisation. Also included was a training seminar with Kancho. Kept to kihon and Kata this was hard going with over 60 blackbelts from all over the world training during a rather wet Hanami (cherry blossom time) in Ito dojo.
